A Process for Carbon Dioxide Capture Using Schiff Bases Containing a Trimethoprim Unit

Environmental problems associated with the growing levels of carbon dioxide in atmosphere due to burning fossil fuels satisfy high demand for energy are a pressing concern. Therefore, design new materials storage has received increasing research attention. In this work, we report synthesis three Schiff bases containing trimethoprim unit and investigation their application as adsorbents capture. The reaction aromatic aldehydes acid medium gave corresponding 83%–87% yields. exhibited surface areas ranging from 4.15 20.33 m2/g, pore volumes 0.0036–0.0086 cm3/g, average diameters 6.64–1.4 nm. An excellent uptake (27–46 wt%) was achieved at temperature pressure (313 K 40 bar, respectively) using bases. 3-hydroxyphenyl-substituted base, which meta-arrangement, provided highest (46 its higher area, volume, diameter compared other two derivatives para-arrangement.
